What should you do  with your 401(k) and retirement money now?

I am 100% committed to educating my clients.

"As you review my webpage, I want you to know that I am grateful to provide this FREE information to you.

This page, "What should you do with your 401(k) money now?" and any FREE material I send to you is designed for investors to become informed on a critical decision."

  • What options do I have with my old retirement plans like my 401(k) and 403(b)?

    Glad you asked.

    1. You can see if you can keep the money in your current 401(k).
    2. You can rollover funds to your new employers plan.
    3. You can rollover funds to IRA accounts. (Indidvidual Retirement Accounts.)
    4. And you can always ask for a check and spend the money.

401(k) and retirement plans typically provide at least four options when you leave your employer.

Please review this Comprehenisive Guide  for more info about your options.

  • Watch out for these potential Rollover Blunders

When you move money there are no 'do over's.' Know some important facts before you move money.

    1. The "Auto Rollover": Some 401(k) and 403(b) providers will kindly move your money to one of their internal IRA accounts.  No service enhancement included.
    2. The small peanuts tax boot: Oh, if your balance is under $5,000, they can just send you a check. Employers prefer to boot you out because of excess expenses they are picking up to host your money, otherwise.
    3. 1000's of options: Part of what can make moving your money confusing is there are just too many options, in my opinion. There are many factors to consider. Fees, commissions, taxes, and bad choices can hurt!
    4. Can you get a hold of some of the money to spend today?Though not always advised there are ways to get a hold of some of the money for living expenses, especially if you are in between jobs.

401(k) and retirement plans typically provide at least four options when you leave your employer.

Please review this Comprehenisive Guide  for more info about your options.

  • What fees are involved with IRAs you offer?

An implicit assumption: We both care about your portfolio's net results.

    The Fiduciary way

We do better when you do better.

Clients pay an agreed-upon rate. It is factor-based and is generally tiered so that your rate goes down as your overall balance goes up. Request a fee schedule.

An example of an advisory rate schedule might look something like this for an account:

    First $100,000 @1.55%

    Next $400,000 @ 1.25%

    Next $500,000 @ .5%

    Additonal funds @ .25%

I focus on what the NET  result may be for you, the client. Call me crazy, but I think it matters what your portfolio  keeps!

I pay attention to your portfolio expenses, taxes, insurance, investments, social security, income, family dynamics, and health.

Advisory fees are debited from investment accounts on a quarterly basis.

Your investment objectives, income needs, timeframe, and overall investment costs can contribute to your net portfolio results. This is why paying attention to your net result and having an average target portfolio result is important.

  • What rates of return can I expect?

    Great question.

The simple answer is this: I believe in customized IRA options, first. There is no such thing as the perfect portfolio. We always strive for the NET positive result for clients over market cycles.

However, I am happy to give you a personalized expectation of where your average results might fall within.

Just call my office at 320-259-7030.

Organize your financial clutter

It's more than an investment account...

We think finances should be accessible. Whether moving money, getting a loan, or investing, we think keeping track of the big picture is critical.

"What will this do for our money?"

It becomes essential when you pull out your phone to call with that quick question about how something could affect your money.

A financial plan is not a one time occurance. It changes with life. We think the "X factor" in better planning is accountability from an advisor you enjoy!
